It’s something we had been needing to do for quite some time, but what with this and that it is not so easy to schedule in a little time just for ourselves, to light out for some spot or another we had never seen before. We managed it, though, if only for a couple of nights.

When I was a kid, one of my first career ambitions after giving up on NASA and the Mars Mission (which never turned out happening anyway) was to be on the staff of National Geographic Magazine. Sam Abell started as a summer intern in 1967, and nicer still, he’s still around to talk about what that was like.

I believe Zaha Hadid’s buildings are actually sculptures, very large works of art that people can walk around and go inside of. As it goes with art, it’s not unusual for several people to have wildly divergent reactions to any particular work.
1. barren or laid waste; devastated: a treeless, desolate landscape. 2. deprived or destitute of inhabitants; deserted; uninhabited. 3. solitary; lonely: a desolate place. 4. having the feeling of being abandoned by friends or by hope; forlorn. 5. dreary; dismal; gloomy: desolate prospects.

The Daily Mail is a really crappy sort of uh, journalism-thingy, I hope we can agree, and I dislike linking to them on the off-chance someone will actually click it but I can’t help it this time – I’m just too intrigued to find this set of photos called ‘ Silent World ‘ from a pair working out of Paris.
